The Peninsula Construction Academy provides High School Juniors and Seniors with technical training in a number of entry-level construction disciplines. The program is conducted by New Horizon's Regional Education Centers and offers coursework, technical instruction and hands-on experience in the following disciplines:
Carpentry Learn to read and interpret blueprints, master basic and intermediate framing, drywalling, and roofing techniques. Coursework includes an introduction to use and care of specialized tools required in the discipline and a thorough review of all relevant safety rules and regulations.
Heating and Air Conditioning Learn the fundamentals of Indoor Air Comfort and Quality Management. HVACR coursework covers heating and air conditioning systems, refrigerant systems, compressors and evaporators, heat pumps, distribution system load planning and ducting fabrication standards and techniques.
Digital Cabling and Electricity Coursework covers reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics, proper routing and installation techniques for conduit systems, electrical, voice and data cabling standards, security system, and advanced audio and visual system installations, The program provides an overview to use and care techniques for special tools used in this discipline. Coursework provides a complete review of industry safety rules and regulations.
Welding Coursework, technical training and hands-on experience include an introduction to ARC, MIG, and TIG welding, torch metal cutting, brazing and plasma cutting. Students develop a thorough understanding of all specialized safety rules and regulations mandated in this specialty. |
