SEVA-PORT - Southeastern Virginia Partnership for Regional Transformation
Expanding port-related industries through workforce talent
The Peninsula Council for Workforce Development is a proud partner in the Southeastern Virginia Partnership for Regional Transformation (SEVA-PORT). SEVA-PORT's mission is to integrate, enhance and build linkages between the emerging industry of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and the expanding Port-related industries of Transportation, Warehousing and Distribution (TWD), while at the same time reducing the human costs by developing the skills and talent of dislocated workers and untapped labor pools.
SEVA-PORT was awarded a $5 million Department of Labor WIRED grant in July 2007 to accomplish the following objectives.
- Support the current and future workforce needs of TWD and M&S industries through relationship building, training, research and development, and entrepreneurship
- Mitigate BRAC and industry downsizing impacts by strengthening the talent pipeline for TWD / M&S occupations
- Enhance relationships between WIRED partners and expand the collaborative
The SEVA-PORT initiative focuses on aligning workforce, economic development and education program planning and delivery with the current and emerging demands of a dramatically growing port in order to diversify and expand the economy and increase higher paying job opportunities.
