Peninsula Council for Workforce Development

Education Partners

Connecting education and business

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a growing gap between the emerging workforce, who is gaining their first work experience, and the retiring workers who are preparing to leave the workforce. The mission of workforce development is to link personal education and development providers with those who are working to improve their employability.

The Council works closely with a large number of educational service providers, from pre-school and day-care service providers to four-year colleges and a variety of personal services educators.

Business and Education Partnership and Volunteer Opportunities - In an effort to prepare youth for the "real world", there are a variety of ways to get involved in business and education partnerships.

Submit a Training Program for Listing or Approval
The Council utilizes training services in conjunction with our Guided Search program.  To qualify, a training provider must demonstrate that the coursework can prepare a job seeker to find and secure skills of value for the seeker's chosen career path. The Council will evaluate training programs that have been submitted for approval by the provider and identify those programs that may be selected by Guided Search Job Seekers for PCFWD training grants. For more information, contact a Council staff member today.

Education and Work Based Training

The Council also works closely with area employers and educators to facilitate meaningful Work Based Training Programs. Peninsula employers are looking for students that are interested in long-term career opportunities and are willing to give students practical experience in career fields they may wish to enter. As an educator, you have a unique perspective on ways to make Work Based Training programs more productive for both the student and the companies that offer them. The Council urges local educators to stay abreast of the Work Based Training Programs and utilize the information to recommend specific opportunities to students whom they believe may have an aptitude for the positions being offered. Guidance Counselors' comments on the positions are always welcome. If you have suggestions for making the programs more meaningful for your students, please contact us today.
